Dario Schicke's journey to Omaha began in 1992 when he left his home in Sarajevo at the start of the Bosnian War. He ended up in Germany where he met his wife, Amy, a Nebraska native. The pair moved to New York City where Dario attended the French Culinary Institute. After the devastation on 9/11, they decided to move their family to Nebraska and start over in Omaha. Dario was the chef at The Market Basket and The French Cafe before opening his first restaurant, Dario's Brasserie, in 2006.
After nearly seven years of success in the historic Dundee neighborhood, Dario decided Omaha was ready for an Italian restaurant unlike any other in the city. Dario and his team are dedicated to sourcing the best ingredients available to create authentic, simple Northern Italian cuisine.
The name "Avoli" was created by combining the first letters in the Schicke's beautiful daughters' names: Ava and Olivia. An "osteria" is an unpretentious dining establishment serving wine and simple food.
